One of our favorite things to do in the summer is spend July 4th with our friends in downtown Hendersonville, letting the kids run around, and watch the fireworks. “Look for the big red balloon” we always hear. This is the marker for where to see the fireworks.
The parade downtown begins at 10:30am on Tuesday, July 4th and will run from Caswell Street to 6th Ave. The fireworks will start between 9:15 and 9:30. From personal experience, if you want to watch them from the square in front of the courthouse, you’ll want to arrive early!
While the fireworks in downtown Hendersonville are definitely fun to watch and are worth the effort in getting (and leaving) downtown, there are other options.
Brevard also has a 4th of July celebration downtown that includes live music, a duck race, and a reading of The Declaration Of Independence. The fireworks in Brevard are set off between 9:20 and 9:40pm from Brevard College. Jailhouse Hill is recommended as a viewing spot, as is the college itself.
Lake Lure also has its own fireworks show and is a great spot to take your kids. The show happens on Saturday, July 1st at dusk. This is a great spot to picnic on the Lake Lure beach with a blanket and some chairs. Tickets must be purchased though and it is popular so visit the Hickory Nut Chamber website to buy them ahead of time.
There are other smaller fireworks shows that are around the area, but many are private for residents or members. So, pull out your phone and start flipping through Facebook to see who you might know that belongs to whatever event you want to attend.
