Appalachian Mountain Brewery Mills River Now Open

About 50 people showed up half an hour before the grand opening of the Appalachian Mountain Brewery – Mills River Taproom Grand Opening event on Friday, June 23rd. By the time the doors opened and the first customers started making order, there were easily another hundred people that had joined. Many of the people we talked to in line were fans of the AMB Boone location, some were there for the Mills River commemorative pint glasses being given away to the first 200 customers, and some were just excited for a new location.

The first 200 customers received this commemorative pint glass for free at the new Mills River location grand opening.

Our first impression of the new Appalachian Mountain Brewery location was that it offered a lot of space outside, which really made a difference after about 7pm when there were two long lines stretching out of the bay doors. There were quite a lot of people to show up in the evening, but it didn’t feel overly crowded thanks to plenty of picnic tables and open areas.

While we haven’t sampled every beer on the menu, we can attest to the quality of a few of them. Our favorites include the Hilly Haze IPA, the High Luminosity Session Hazy IPA (good summer beer), and the Chocolate Orange Nilla Imperial Stout. If you’re a fan of darker beers, the O-Nilla is an excellent one to try. For the brave souls that had their taste buds seared off after eating a tray of bagel bites, AMB also carries the Bojangles Hard Tea.

AMB Mills River also has a full liquor bar with a cocktail menu, wines, ciders, seltzers, and some non-alcoholic options.

There is also a full kitchen open that, based on the little bit of feedback we heard on opening day, has some very good food. Brewery staples like chicken wings, loaded fries, and smash burgers are on the menu, but they also have some unique options like the panko fried chicken thigh topped with chow chow pimiento cheese and pickles. There’s also a kid’s menu!

Also for kids, there is plenty to do. As parents, we enjoy having dinner and drinks with friends while our kids have something to do in a safe, confined area where we can keep an eye on them. Appalachian Mountain Brewery has done a great job recognizing that a lot of parents like bring their kids as it becomes a community meeting place. Aside from the open areas they can run around in, there is also a sandbox, life-size Connect 4 game, ring toss, and cornhole games for kids to use.

Appalachian Mountain Brewery is located right next to the Ingles Plaza in Mills River at 46 N. Mills River Road. They are open from 4pm – 10pm Monday through Thursday, 12pm – 10pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 12pm – 9pm on Sundays.
